The Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau announced today (June 10) the setting up of the Advisory Group on Eliminating Discrimination against Sexual Minorities, with Professor Fanny Cheung Mui-ching as Chairperson. Also appointed to the Advisory Group are 13 members from the academic and business sectors, the sexual minority community and the Legislative Council (LegCo). The appointments are for a period of two years.

The Advisory Group will advise the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs on matters relating to concerns about discrimination faced by sexual minorities in Hong Kong, notably the aspects and extent of discrimination faced by sexual minorities in Hong Kong, and the strategies and measures to tackle the problems identified with a view to eliminating discrimination and nurturing a culture of diversity, tolerance and mutual respect in the community. The Advisory Group will also take over the functions of the Sexual Minorities Forum.
“The establishment of the Advisory Group reflects the Administration’s determination in addressing the issue of discrimination faced by sexual minorities in Hong Kong. We look forward to working with the Advisory Group on this important issue,” a spokesman for the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau said.

諮詢小組會就性小眾被歧視的關注及相關事宜向政制及內地事務局局長提供意見,特別是性小眾在香港受歧視的範疇及嚴重性,以及消除這些歧視的策略及措施,以期在社會上建立多元、包容及互相尊重的文化。諮詢小組亦會取代少數性傾向人士論壇的職能。
政制及內地事務局發言人表示:「諮詢小組的成立反映了當局在處理性小眾在香港所面對的歧視問題的決心。我們期待與小組在這重要事宜上共同努力。」
